Picture Of The Day

Dr. Hiroya Sugano, center, the caretaker of the Blackened Canteen tradition, a U.S. airman and a member of the Japanese military pour bourbon whiskey into the hallowed waters at the USS Arizona Memorial in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, Dec. 6, 2016. The whiskey is a peace offering. The vessel is a World War II-era canteen recovered at a crash site where two American bombers collided after a deadly raid on Shizuoka, Japan, June 19, 1945. The aircrews and 2,000 Japanese citizens were killed in the air raid. Sugano is the director general of the Zero Fighter Admirers Club. DoD photo by Lisa Ferdinando
